Dr McMullen is a career educator and published academic in the health field.
Dr McMullen has over 45 years experience working in the healthcare sector in a variety of roles including: Intensive Care Paramedic, Registered Nurse, clinician, Clinical Nurse Consultant in emergency care, Intensive Care Nurse Educator, Nurse Manager of Education (Greater Newcastle Area Health) and Academic (Senior Lecturer with University of Tasmania School of Medicine, Conjoint Lecturer University of Newcastle School of Nursing). For the past four years, she has been teaching occupational violence prevention programs with ACIM Solutions to industries such as NSW Ambulance, Catholic Healthcare and Compass Housing.
Dr McMullen was responsible for the creative instructional design, implementation and evaluation of diverse education programs specifically focused for those working in the health industry.
Prior to her retirement, Dr McMullen worked as an Education Co-ordinator in a private hospital from 2016 to 2019. In this role, she was responsible for the education and professional development for clinical and non clinical staff (>400 employees).
Between 2013 and 2016 Dr McMullen was the Associate Head of School of Medicine, University of Tasmania and was responsible for establishing strategic partnerships with key stakeholders such as ambulance services and local health districts.
Dr McMullen lead the academic team to provide high quality graduates from the undergraduate Bachelor of Paramedic Practice degree and Conversion Pathway across two campuses: Hobart and Rozelle.
From 2010 to 2016 in her role, Dr McMullen was also directly responsible for the curriculum development of the new Bachelor of Paramedic Practice and overall coordination and delivery of the degree.
During this period Dr McMullen also performed the role of Senior Lecturer, Paramedic Coordinator at the Rozelle campus and as part of those duties she established a collegial partnerships with NSWA specifically, Ambulance services around Australia and international partnerships with universities and ambulance services in the U.K. She was the Chair and National Director of the Australian & New Zealand College of Paramedicine.
Dr McMullen was awarded her PhD by the Faculty of Education at Newcastle University in 2007 and prior to that achieved her Master Degree in 1999 with a thesis focused on the education of personnel in the health sector.
