Jule Syme

Jule Syme currently works for the Victorian State Emergency Service and has worked in all aspects of Emergency Management for 20 years. Having started as Regional Officer Training, other roles she has held Operations Manager Emergency Management Central Region and Operations Manager Readiness Eastern Region, Regional Officer Emergency Management and currently Community Resilience Coordinator. She has specific skill set in Community Engagement and Media visiting community hubs in some of the worst flood and fire effected areas.

Jule is qualified in a range of IMT roles including Operations Officer Level 2, Planning Officer Level 2 and Public Information Officer Level 2, she has also worked in the role VICSES Regional Agency Commander and State Duty Officer.

She has delivered various Emergency Management training to Victoria Police, including their Senior Sargent’s and Inspector programs in Emergency Management. She has worked with Local councils preparing their Emergency Management Plans and run their Community Risk Assessment (CERA) and Introduction to Emergency Management courses. She has been involved with Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committees. Delivered courses for other external stakeholders and other Emergency Service Personnel. Jule is also an Australasian Inter Service Incident Management System (AIIMS) facilitator.

Jule has gained extensive experience through a variety of deployments both in Victoria and around Australia. Events such as Yassi (cyclone), Black Saturday (Fire) Floods in VIC, NSW, QLD, Fires in VIC, QLD, NSW, ACT. She was the first to take a Victorian Road Rescue Team to work on the Fire ground for response if needed in the ACT and a mixed taskforce of VICSES and CFA into NSW for the floods in Lismore.
