Greg McMahon

Greg retired as a Sergeant from the NSW Police Force in 2015 after 33 years’ service in mostly rural and remote areas of the state. He performed many roles including General Duties, Anti-Theft, Education, Crime Coordinator and Duty Officer. He authored and executed many local crime operations, participated in the NSW contingent to the NT Intervention, and contributed to numerous local, regional, and cross-border crime and public order response operations. During his career Greg was a Recognised Law Enforcement Officer (Special Constable) for Victoria, South Australia, Queensland, and the Northern Territory.

He was a Land Search Coordinator and coordinated and controlled numerous land searches in remote areas of NSW. He spent several years as the Local Emergency Operations Controller for the Broken Hill LGA and was a trainer for the Police Incident and Emergency Management Course. Greg was an Education and Development Officer for several years and completed the
Advanced Diploma in Police Management.

From 2015 Greg became the Far West Region Emergency Management Officer based in Broken Hill. He was a facilitator on several state-based courses for Resilience NSW including Introduction to Emergency Management, Emergency Operations Centre Concepts and Evacuation Management. He was involved with the development of the Design and Manage Emergency Exercises competency-based course and facilitated on this course for several years.

As a REMO Greg was the executive officer for the Far West Region Emergency Management Committee, and the Far West and Central West Region Rescue Committees. He was the NSW state coordinator for the Annual NSW, SA, and Qld Tri-State Emergency Services Conference, and supported the Far West Local Emergency Management Committees and Local Rescue Committees. Greg has worked in several Local and Regional Emergency Operations Centres for disasters in NSW.

With a passion for Emergency Management Exercises, he has led the development, management, execution, and evaluation of more than 30 local, regional and cross-border multi-agency exercises.

Greg is the recipient of the National Police Service Medal, the National Medal, and the Australian Defense Medal.
