Brad is an agile and adaptive Risk, Crisis and Emergency Management Consultant, seeking synergy between academic theory and operational practice to support professionalism within the emergency management sphere. Brad has over 30 years of varied experience in emergency management across Australia and has a specific skillset within aviation safety. He is proficient across the spectrum of Prevention, Preparedness, Response, and Recovery, and is passionate about developing emergency management-based capability across individuals and organisations. He has worked within emergency management-based roles within WA Local Government, WA State Government, and within Federal Government organisations.
Key roles Brad has been engaged within include working in Incident Management Teams across the functions of control, operations, planning, public information, safety and liaison at numerous natural hazard emergencies inclusive of bushfires, floods, and cyclones, with the Dept. of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) in WA, and has worked with external agencies inclusive of WA Police, Dept. of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, Dept. of Communities, and the ADF. He has also worked within emergency operation centres within the functions of planning, coordination, and liaison, including acting as the Jurisdictional Liaison Officer at the NSW SEOC for DFES firefighting personnel during the 2019/2020 NSW bushfire season.
To support his extensive practical experience, Brad has completed qualifications in the Public Safety (PS) Training Package inclusive of Cert IV in PS (Firefighting Supervision), and the Advanced Diploma in PS (Emergency Management), as well as tertiary certificates inclusive of a Graduate Certificate in Emergency and Disaster management, a Master of Emergency Management, and is currently studying a PhD through Edith Cowan University. His thesis topic is that of a policy review of the existing Australian Emergency Management Arrangements, in considering the potential for enhanced harmonisation across Australian jurisdictions in preparation for an increasingly risk-based future environment.
Brad is also currently providing Research Assistant/casual academic services across a number of Australian-based universities to provide subject matter expert support within EM based subjects at AQF’s Level 7 to 9, thereby assisting to build the next generation of Emergency Managers within Australia.
