This week we have run programs for two diverse organisations where staff are exposed to the risk of aggression as part of their role. The forms of aggressive behaviour vary but the impact is significant and can be long lasting. Upskilling and building confidence in teams is in the best interests of the organisation as well as those individuals involved.
Our programs are focused on those:
- who perform field based roles that engage directly with stakeholders and/or
- those that conduct compliance and enforcement duties that deal directly with stakeholders.
The programs are staged and offered as one or two day courses. Each one is tailored to those people who handle difficult and potentially violent situations as part of their work.
The learning outcomes of the program are applicable for teams in a diverse range of workplace contexts. Course participants will develop skills to;
- Assess a situation and determine the best response strategy
- Identify motivators for triggers and distress
- Use communication skills and non verbal strategies
- Identify and assess changing levels of risk
- Utilise advanced de-escalation skills
- Recognise safe and danger zones in the workplace
- Identify and use personal safety strategies when responding and managing an aggressive person
- Use exit awareness in the physical environment and strategies to be able to exit that environment when necessary
- Develop a risk assessment for planned work activity
- Identify and use personal safety strategies when responding and managing an aggressive person
- Identify when support and assistance from NSW Police is required
- Use exit awareness in the physical environment and strategies to be able to exit that environment when necessary
- Use open hand evasive techniques
- Utilise the minimum and safe placement of force
- Utilise defensive tactics and identify appropriate restraint techniques
- Build practical resilience skills
The practical skills you will learn in this program can be applied immediately. The communication strategies and improved risk management practices can be implemented by individuals and work groups directly into the workplace to build resilient and capable organisational cultures.
