Course Description: The Advanced Diploma of Public Safety (Emergency Management) qualification provides the skills and knowledge required to perform a leadership role in emergency or disaster management. It is suitable for paid professionals or volunteers working across the emergency or disaster management spectrum; Prevention, Preparedness, Response and Recovery (PPRR). This qualification addresses both the planning for, and management of major risks in emergencies and recovery operations. The program’s specific focus is on working with the community and other key stakeholders prior to, during and after an emergency incident.
Assessment: We combine a range of assessment methods including workplace tasks, demonstrations, role-play, written reports, exercise design and conduct activities, case study reviews and project work. Assessments at AQF Level 5 will be provided
Career: This qualification may provide a pathway to higher education including post graduate studies or other qualifications relevant to their role in emergency management. Many options
Entry Requirements: There are no pre-requisites for this course. Expected level of student skills: It is expected students have a level of digital literacy to access information, communicate and complete training and assessment activities using a computer/tablet and our online learning platform. Students will be required to complete a number of tasks independently, and to have the skills to manage their own time and study. At the diploma level students are expected to be able to research and analyse information, and to apply knowledge to real world situations. Students will be required to independently read and understand a range of different documents including legislation, plans and policies, guidebooks and articles. Students are also required to develop written documentation, including risk assessments, action plans, logs and reports. A key skill for this program is the ability to effectively communicate with others in English, including in time critical and stressful situations. Technology requirements: Students require access to a computer/tablet device with word processing software, internet browser and email account. An internet connection is also required. A webcam/microphone and speakers (or headset) will be needed for any virtual meetings. ACIM Solutions may be able to assist you with access to a computer device if you do not have options for meeting this requirement.
Qualification Requirements: This program is available in both skill sets (groups of units leading to a Statement of Attainment) and as a full qualification. Pre requisite units attached to any of the elective units must be undertaken and are additional to the number of elective units required for this qualification. This qualification incorporates 10 core units and 5 elective units and we offer a range of electives for this unit. The structure provided is a sample only and participants are encouraged to discuss their learning goals and objectives with us.
Notes: RPL application Recognition of prior learning is available on this qualification. If you have employment experience in this area, you may apply for recognition or prior learning. You will need to be able to provide evidence of your employment experience and the ACIM RPL team will assist you through the RPL process. Please contact us for our RPL kit. Credit transfer is also available for this qualification. This qualification allows for two (2) elective units to be imported from another endorsed training package or accredited course. All elective units selected from outside this qualification must be from an equivalent qualification level or higher. Electives units selected must not duplicate content already covered by other units in this qualification. If you have done previous study in this qualification or an equivalent, you can provide a copy of your transcript/s from your earlier study and ACIM will conduct a credit assessment.
